Campesinos en la Lucha Agraria – Femcafé

“I would like customers to know that they are getting a product with an identity, based on fair relationships, empowering women and improving access to healthy food in distant communities. It doesn’t matter how much coffee the customer buys, but that he knows that each bean has a story of life with dignity.
-Gisela Illescas, Coordinator

It is a cooperative enterprise of social and solidarity economy integrated by peasant families from the center of the State of Veracruz.

They are concerned about taking care of the quality of their coffee by focusing on the selection process of the seeds and cherries, and have developed their own quality policy based on a product of zero defects and a selective cut.

They also avoid the use of chemicals that are harmful to health and the environment.

Currently they manage to sell only 40% of their production through the cooperative at a reasonable price, but the remaining 60% is sold at excessively low prices to avoid bankruptcy.

It is a struggle they face year after year in order to be able to allocate their income to various social improvement programs, thus increasing the quality of life of producers and promoting gender equality in the work of the countryside.
